Aspen Skating Club - Coaches
Stephanie Torres, Colleen Collins, Teri Hooper, Aasta Shechter, Jenny Nelson
Teri is a former National competitor at the championship level and has been coaching since 1976.  She began her career in Denver coaching with both Carlos Fassi and Don Laws as a National and International level coach.  She has a Sports Science Degree from the University of Denver.  Her choreography abilities earned her a position on the coaching team for Scott Hamilton's Olympic tribute. Teri is a Triple Gold Medalist, a USFS Technical Specialist, and is among an elite group of Professional Skaters Association Triple Master Rated coaches being rated in Group Instruction and Figures / Freestyle  and Moves in the Field.  This is the highest rating available.  She enjoys coaching skaters from beginner to competitive levels at all ages from tots to adults.   Lesson requests may be made to Teri Hooper at 970-379-5900 or by email: hoopertk@comcast.net
Teri Klindworth Hooper, Head Coach
Jenny began skating at the age of 4 and knew right from the start that she wanted to teach skating when she grew up.  She began teaching in 1992 at the Winter Lodge Ice Rink in Palo Alto, CA.  She moved to Aspen in 1998 and worked as the Director for the City of Aspen Ice Facilities until 2009.  Jenny competed at the US Adult National Figure Skating Championships in 2005 where she placed third in the artistic event and fifth in the freestyle event.  She is a USFSA gold medalist in standard moves in the field and adult freestyle.  Jenny is also a member of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) where she holds a Basic Accreditation rating and a Hockey Level I Accreditation.  Jenny specializes in teaching children, adults, and special needs skaters; basic skills; freestyle; and moves in the field.  For lessons please email: jennyn00@comcast.net
Jenny Nelson
Stephanie began figure skating at the age of 6 in Michigan at St Claire Shores Figure Skating Club, then moved on to Fraser Figure Skating Club where she continue skating competitively at both the Regional and Sectional level until the age of 16.  She has tested at the Junior Freeskate Level and was working on her Gold Figures.  Stephanie crossed over to short-track speedskating at the age of 14 as a member of the Wolverine Short Track Speedskating Club, and raced at the State and National level until she was 19 years old. She spent three summers training for speedskating at the Olympic Training Centers in both Lake Placid, NY and Marquette, MI.   She also trained with Olympic figure skating coaches Alex McGowan and Igor Shpilband.  Stephanie moved to Aspen in 1999 after graduating from Michigan State University, and has made it her home along with her husband, 2 daughters, and their Golden Retriever.  Stephanie previously taught for the Aspen Skating Club during the 1999/2000 season, and she is honored and excited to be a part of the ASC once again!  You can schedule lessons with Stephanie through her email steph_aspen@hotmail.com
Stephanie Torres
Colleen Collins Colleen started training with the Aspen Figure Skating Club decades ago.  She has trained n Aspen as well as Denver with Bonnie McLaughlin, Marilyn MacDonald, and Carlo Fassi.  After a long hiatus from the ice, she is back and rededicating herself to the practice by lending a helping hand to Aspen Skating Club. She is enthusiastic about helping the up and coming new additions to our club as well as adding a guiding hand to our more experienced skaters.  Colleen has two children and loves making Aspen her home.
Aasta Shechter, Junior Coach
Aasta started skating at age two and entered her first competition at three.  She has skated in more than 40 competitions over the years and twice competed at the Southwestern Regional Championships.  Last July she passed her Junior Moves in the Field test and is currently working on her Senior test.  She has also passed her Juvenile Freeskate and Preliminary Dance tests.  Aasta comes from a family with an extensive figure skating background.  As a sophomore at Aspen High School, Aasta has lettered in the sport of Figure Skating for the past two years.  Her other interests include theatre and traveling.  In June, Aasta will be traveling to Europe as a People to People Student Ambassador.  Her email is sk8aasta@gmail.com
