After having skated on a flooded rink for a couple of winters, the Brown Ice Palace (aka the Aspen Ice Garden) was built in 1963 (after Ruth Brown, wife of D.R.C. Brown, a former President of the Aspen Skiing Company from 1958-1979). At the same time, The Aspen Skating Club was formed. The Club officially joined the United States Figure Skating in 1969 after one-year probationary membership. In 1993 the Club became incorporated as the Aspen Figure Skating Club. At the same time we applied for non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. Over the years, the Aspen Skating Club has produced a number of national competitors and gold medalists. Our membership includes competitors from tots to teens and adults.; Professional Skating Association rated coaches and US Figure Skating Judges.
